The Caribbean coast of Costa Rica is a true rain forest and beach experience and it is impossible to predict what kind of weather you will get on your vacation. Along with the many beautiful sunny days perfect for beach lounging and daiquiri drinking come a handful of rainy days-not so good for beach lounging but great for daiquiri drinking! Fear not my future guests! If you come prepared for both, we think you’ll find yourself able to enjoy whatever the wind brings. There is a ton to do and see here in the rain and as long as you’re interested in relaxing and experiencing the rain forest, you will have a memorable time here in Playa Chiquita, Costa Rica.

Here is a list of our favorite rainy day activities:

Lounging in a hammock with a good book. There’s just nothing like relaxing to the sounds of the jungle on the front porch of a bungalow. Our little book exchange has a nice selection and all are welcome to it.

Explore the jungle with a local guide. Truth be told, a lot of the coolest critters amongst us really like the rain and are almost only out and about when the skies open up. For example that cute little Costa Rican tree frog everybody wants to see, colorful snakes only some of us want to see, and lots of other wacky and wild animals.

Massage. Treat yourself to a very special rain forest massage at one of the area’s studios or spa’s. If you want something fancy, Pure Jungle spa offers things like chocolate facials and papaya scrubs. Or take a quick stroll down the road to get a relaxing massage at Body & Mind studio by Denise.

What about those daiquiris? The numerous restaurants from Puerto Viejo to Manzanillo offer everything from local Caribbean chicken to fine Italian and each meal (and beverage) is a special moment.

Just breath. Take in the cool, fresh rain forest air. There’s really nothing else like it.
