Our little village of Playa Chiquita is home to some of the finest but we’ll start with Manzanillo and work our way up the coast to Puerto Viejo.
Maxi’s– For local Caribbean food that’s simply unbeatable Maxi’s out in Manzanillo is the choice. This restaurant/bar is the heart of Manzanillo where tourists and expats are treated like locals and the grilled red snapper will make you sure you’ve died and gone to heaven.
El Refugio Grill– This Argentinian style cafe out by Playa Grande is not only an adorable place run by a sweet Argentinian family but delicious as well. The small menu is always fresh and homemade with the best steak on the coast and authentic chimichuri.
Selvin’s– This is our go-to local Caribbean eatery. Right down the road in Punta Uva, Selvin will personally greet you and then place in front of you a shockingly tasty dish of Caribbean chicken, fish or his famous run down (a traditional fish stew based in fresh coconut milk).
Pita Bonita– Located in Punta Uva, this new Middle Eastern joint has become a quick favorite. Yummy falafel, hummus and kebab are just a few of the tasty treats you’ll find here.
La Botanica Organica– This fabulous cafe happens to be our closest neighbor right here in Playa Chiquita. With a wide variety of homemade, organic, vegetarian options this is a wholesome place that shouldn’t be missed.
Jungle Love Garden Cafe– Offering mango chicken, Tokyo tuna, homemade pesto and the finest margarita on the coast, this Playa Chiquita favorite has something for everyone. It’s always a fun night out here with good tunes, friendly owners and unique and yummy dishes.
La Pecora Nera– For an anniversary, honeymoon, or just special evening out this fine Italian restaurant is said to be the best Italian food in Costa Rica, and we agree! If you’re lucky the chef/owner will come out and tell you what you should order. You’ll find this amazing spot in Cocles closer to the Playa Chiquita end.
Loco Natural– World fusion at it’s best. Heading into Puerto Viejo, this funky place offers a variety of flavorful sauces with chicken, fish or veggies and it you like spicy, the plantains are out of this world. Some evenings you’ll find live music as well.
Mama Mia– For the best pizza in town, heading into Puerto Viejo you’ll find this little authentic place serving up thin crust Italian style pizza. So good!
Lidia’s Place– A few blocks off of the main road in Puerto Viejo this local spot is one of the oldest around with a true Caribbean vibe. Try one of the various batidos (fruit smoothies) and the Caribbean chicken melts in your mouth.
Chili Rojo– For a taste of Asia this is your best bet. Offering a nice mix of Thai and Japanese with a cheeseburger thrown in the mix you just can’t go wrong. Best sushi in town too!
